Forestry Economics: Timber Volume, Growth, Rotation Age & Land Value
Measure tree and stand volume, build a yield table with MAI and CAI, find the biological, economic and Faustmann rotations, value thinnings by present value and estimate carbon credits from growth: 8 graded labs on a fictional conifer stand.
The first lesson is free โ no account needed.
About this course
A forestry economics course that values one fictional conifer stand in a spreadsheet, for forestry students, woodland owners and land managers. You turn the diameter and height of sample trees into basal area and stem volume with a form factor, scale circular sample plots up to stems, basal area and volume per hectare, build a growth and yield table with mean and current annual increment and chart both curves, find the biological rotation where MAI peaks, discount the harvest at every felling age to the age with the highest NPV, calculate the Faustmann land expectation value for infinite rotations and compare the three answers, value two thinning regimes by present value and convert volume growth into tonnes of COโ and carbon credits at an illustrative price. The first lab is free.
