Aquaculture Economics: Biomass, Feed Conversion & Cost per Kilo
Calculate stocking density and biomass, roll survival through a cycle, measure growth with SGR, compare biological and economic FCR, price a harvest by size grade, build the cost per kg, plan the cycle cash flow and break-even price, and test the margin against FCR and survival: 8 graded labs on a fictional salmon farm.
The first lesson is free โ no account needed.
About this course
An aquaculture economics course that runs the numbers of one fictional salmon farm with six pens in a spreadsheet, for fish farm managers, aquaculture students and agribusiness analysts. You calculate stocked biomass and stocking density and find the pen that will be too crowded at harvest, roll survival through a 12-month cycle and turn it into a monthly rate, measure daily gain and the specific growth rate with LN and project the days to harvest weight, compare biological and economic FCR and the feed bill, split the harvest into size grades with an average price per kg, build the cost per kg HOG and live weight from feed, smolts, labour and energy, plan the cycle cash flow with its peak funding need and break-even price and test the margin against FCR and survival in a two-way table. The first lab is free.
