Biology Math: Genetics, Population Growth & Lab Calculations
Punnett squares, chi-square tests, Hardy-Weinberg, exponential and logistic growth, bacterial doubling times, serial dilutions, Michaelis-Menten kinetics and biodiversity indices: the maths of AP, IB and first-year biology in a live spreadsheet that checks every cell.
The first lesson is free โ no account needed.
About this course
A biology math course that turns the calculations of AP, IB and first-year biology into spreadsheets that check every cell. You count the genotypes of a Punnett square and use the product rule for the 9 : 3 : 3 : 1 ratio of a dihybrid cross, test 640 offspring against that ratio with a chi-square goodness-of-fit test and CHISQ.DIST.RT, calculate allele frequencies, Hardy-Weinberg genotype frequencies and the carrier frequency of a recessive condition, model a rabbit population with exponential and logistic growth, find the generation time and growth rate of an E. coli culture with LOG, work out serial dilutions, CFU per mL and haemocytometer cell counts with viability, derive Vmax and Km from a Lineweaver-Burk plot and compare two meadows with Simpson's and Shannon's diversity indices. For students, teachers and lab beginners. The first lab is free.
