Sheep & Goat Flock Economics: Flock Structure, Lambing & Kidding Rates, Growth to Sale Weight, Feed Budgets, Fibre & Milk Income and Margin per Ewe
Run a small sheep or goat flock as a business. You will plan the flock structure, turn fictional lambing or kidding rates into animals to sell, project growth to sale weight, budget feed by season, add wool, fibre or milk income, plan replacements and culls and compute the gross margin per ewe or doe, with every cell checked as you go.

About this course
In this course you run a fictional mixed sheep and dairy goat flock with a spreadsheet. You summarise the mob list with SUMIFS, turn barren, litter and loss rates into lambs and kids reared and whole animals left to sell, and use daily gains to find days to sale weight and sale dates. You price lots with a weight-band grid and a seasonal index using XLOOKUP, budget bought feed by month from a fictional feed plan, check whether wool pays for shearing, calculate goat milk income, work out cull income, the replacement rate and the cost of rearing a ewe lamb, and finish with the gross margin per ewe and per hectare, a price sensitivity table and a cost chart.
