Value Stream Mapping by the Numbers: Lead Time, Process Efficiency & Flow

Turn a value stream map into numbers: data boxes, takt vs cycle time, Little's law waiting times, lead time and process cycle efficiency, the bottleneck and rolled yield, a future state with smaller lots, a before/after chart and the kaizen business case – every cell checked as you go.

About this course

A value stream mapping course that turns one fictional bracket value stream's current-state map into numbers in a spreadsheet, for lean and continuous-improvement practitioners, Six Sigma belts, operations managers and engineering students. You read the data boxes and adjust cycle times for uptime and changeovers, calculate the takt time from demand and flag the steps that cannot keep up, convert every inventory triangle into days of waiting with Little's law, add up the production lead time and the value-added time and calculate the process cycle efficiency, find the bottleneck with INDEX and MATCH and multiply first-pass yields into rolled throughput yield, size a future state with smaller lots and SMED, chart lead time before and after and put a price on the kaizen with released inventory, carrying, scrap and space savings and the payback in months. The first lab is free.
