Electric Vehicle Range & Energy: kWh/100 km, Charging Time & Trip Planning
Calculate electric-vehicle energy from first principles in 8 hands-on labs: usable battery and consumption units, range scenarios, rolling resistance and air drag at speed, cold-weather effects, tapering charging curves, home vs fast-charging cost, a road-trip plan with charging stops, and wall-to-wheel losses with CO2 per km.
The first lesson is free — no account needed.
About this course
An electric vehicle range and energy course that calculates EV energy from first principles in a spreadsheet, for EV drivers and buyers, fleet managers and engineering and physics students. You work out usable battery energy and convert consumption between kWh/100 km, Wh/km, km/kWh and mi/kWh, turn six driving scenarios into full and practical range, calculate the power needed against rolling resistance and air drag (½ρCdAv³) at six speeds and chart how consumption climbs with speed, apply illustrative cold-weather penalties from −10 °C to 40 °C, model a tapering fast-charging curve band by band, compare the cost of home, public and fast charging per 100 km including charging losses, plan a four-leg road trip with charging stops, and chain wall-to-wheel losses into CO2 per km on four grids. Illustrative vehicles, no brands or models. The first lab is free.
