Labour Markets & Inequality: Unemployment, Wage Floors, Lorenz Curves & the Gini Coefficient
Measure jobs, wages and income distribution from fictional survey data and see how policies change the numbers: labour-force rates, worker flows and steady-state unemployment, a wage floor with surplus and deadweight loss, real wages and the labour share, quintiles, Lorenz curves, the Gini coefficient and a redistribution scenario, with every cell checked as you go.

About this course
This course measures jobs, wages and inequality in one fictional country across eight spreadsheet labs. You turn survey counts into participation, unemployment and employment rates, convert worker flows into separation and job-finding rates and compute steady-state unemployment. You solve a linear labour market with a wage floor for unemployment, worker surplus and deadweight loss, deflate wages and compare them with productivity and the labour share. From household microdata you find quintile cut-offs with PERCENTILE.INC and income shares, build a Lorenz curve, compute the Gini coefficient by trapezoids, and test a budget-neutral flat tax with an equal transfer. Every cell is checked as you go.
