Population Analysis & Projections: Age-Band Profiles, Birth & Death Rates, Migration, Cohort Projections and Dependency Ratios
Project how a fictional district will change: age-band profiles, crude birth, death and migration rates, the balancing equation, cohort steps with fictional survival ratios and births, dependency ratios, school places and migration scenarios, with every cell checked as you go.

About this course
In this course you analyse and project the population of a fictional district from aggregated counts by five-year age band. You calculate shares, cumulative shares and the median band, turn births, deaths and moves into rates per 1,000 and check the balancing equation against register counts. You then build a cohort-component projection: survival ratios with XLOOKUP, births from fictional rates, net migration spread over the bands, and twenty-year runs that follow single cohorts with PRODUCT. Finally you compute young and old-age dependency ratios with SUMIFS, convert school-age counts into classes with ROUNDUP and compare low, central and high migration scenarios in a table and a line chart.
