About this course

A climate and weather data course that analyses one weather station's records in a spreadsheet, for students, researchers and anyone who works with climate data. You turn daily readings into monthly means, totals and wet days with AVERAGEIFS and SUMIFS, calculate the 1991–2020 normal and every year's temperature anomaly, fit a linear trend in °C per decade with SLOPE and extend it to 2030, add up heating and cooling degree days, count hot days and tropical nights and find the longest dry spell, smooth noisy precipitation with a 5-year running mean and decadal averages, estimate the return periods of rainfall extremes with the Weibull plotting position and convert US units to metric with a simple heat index. The station and all its records are synthetic, made for practice. The first lab is free.
