Taking a random sample in Excel
- Add a helper column with
=RAND(), sort by it and take the first n rows. Every row has the same chance to be picked. =INDEX(data,RANDBETWEEN(1,ROWS(data)))draws one random row (with replacement).- Data > Data Analysis > Sampling (Analysis ToolPak) does the same in one step. Copy the result as values, or it changes on every recalculation.
