About this course

This course shows Mac users what sits beneath the desktop. You learn that macOS runs on Darwin, a certified Unix system, and map its file tree in Finder, including hidden files. You open the Terminal, meet the zsh shell and practise the essential commands for moving around, reading, copying and removing files, plus the handy open command. You install Homebrew and learn the difference between formulae and casks, read file permissions, use chmod and see when sudo is really needed. You check Gatekeeper and SIP from the command line and review TCC privacy permissions, find your IP address and test connectivity, and finish by installing git, Python and nmap to scan only your own Mac. Every lesson includes a challenge, a solution and a quiz, and the final exam leads to the Tabellab certificate.
