About this course
A music royalties course that follows the money of one fictional artist, Juno Vale, from the streaming pool to her bank account in a spreadsheet, for artists and managers, songwriters, music business students and label staff. You turn a month of a fictional service's revenue into a pro-rata royalty pool and per-1,000-stream payouts, compare per-stream rates on a distributor statement, split a year of streaming money into master and publishing royalties, pay songwriters from a split sheet and take producer points out of the artist royalty, run a 150,000 advance through eight statements until it recoups, compare a distributor with a label deal over three years, split a sync fee, and value a catalogue from royalty decay and a multiple of net label share. Illustrative rates, with no affiliation with any streaming service, label or collecting society, and not legal advice. The first lab is free.
