About this course
In this course you compare three fictional cars the way a careful buyer does. You build a depreciation curve with a steep first year and a declining-balance rate, price a car loan with PMT and split payments into interest and principal with IPMT and PPMT. You rebuild a lease payment from residual value and money factor, add excess-kilometre charges and compare cash, loan and lease including the interest your savings would have earned. Then you add energy, insurance, tax, tyres and service, calculate total cost of ownership per month and per kilometre, find the break-even distance between a cheap and an efficient car, and decide whether to keep an old car or replace it.
