Music Theory by Numbers: Notes as Numbers, Intervals, Scales from Step Patterns, Chords, Transposition, Fret Positions & Rhythm
Learn music theory by counting semitones. You will number the notes, measure intervals, build scales from step patterns and chords from stacked thirds, transpose songs, walk round the circle of fifths, find where the frets on a guitar neck go and count rhythms and bars, with every cell checked as you go.

About this course
This course explains music theory by counting semitones in a spreadsheet. You number the twelve notes with MOD, name them with INDEX and find their octave, measure intervals and their inversions, and build major, minor and pentatonic scales from step patterns in any key. You stack thirds into triads and name their quality, transpose an original chord chart, work out capo frets and the shortest shift for a singer, and walk the circle of fifths with MOD(7 × k, 12). Finally you place the frets on a guitar neck, calculate note frequencies and cents, and turn time signatures and tempo into song length. All songs are original.
