About this course
A health insurance course that turns plan documents into numbers you can compare, following one employee who chooses between three workplace plans. You work out her share of the premium per month, per year and per paycheck, split single claims into deductible, coinsurance and the out-of-pocket maximum, run a year of claims to see when each limit kicks in, compare the total yearly cost (premiums plus out-of-pocket) in a low, a medium and a high usage year, find the break-even spending between a low- and a high-deductible plan, value a tax-advantaged health savings account, compare embedded and aggregate family deductibles and pick a plan by expected cost. The plans are US-style and all numbers are illustrative, not financial, legal or medical advice. The first lab is free.
