Coordinate Geometry with Spreadsheets: Distance, Slopes, Lines, Circles & Polygons
Learn coordinate geometry by computing it on site plans, floor plans, maps and designs: distance and midpoint, slopes and ATAN2 directions, line equations and intersections, parallel and perpendicular checks, point-to-line distance, circles, shoelace areas with SUMPRODUCT and scale-rotate-translate transformations in 8 hands-on labs.
The first lesson is free โ no account needed.
About this course
A coordinate geometry course that computes geometry on real plans and designs in a spreadsheet, for high school and college students, teachers, surveyors, CAD and GIS users and designers. You measure paths on a park site plan with the distance and midpoint formulas, calculate slopes, directions with ATAN2 and roof pitch and check a ramp against a 1:12 limit, write roads as y = mx + b and find where two of them cross, test the walls of a rotated floor plan for parallel and perpendicular, measure the distance of buildings to a planned road and count those inside a noise buffer, test plants against a sprinkler's circle equation, find the area and the centroid of an irregular plot with the shoelace formula and SUMPRODUCT, and scale, rotate and move a logo outline with a before-and-after chart. The first lab is free.
