Cross-Tabs & Chi-Square: Analysing Categorical Data in Excel
Build cross-tabs from raw rows with COUNTIFS, read row and column percentages, compute expected counts, chi-square and Cramér's V by hand, and handle 2 × 2 tables, small samples and paired answers, in a live spreadsheet that checks every cell.
The first lesson is free — no account needed.
About this course
A cross-tab and chi-square course that analyses one fictional city bike-share's rider survey in a spreadsheet, for analysts, survey researchers and students who need more than a pivot table. You build a plan by trip-purpose cross-tab from raw rows with one COUNTIFS formula, choose between row, column and total percentages, calculate the expected counts under independence and the standardised residuals, run the chi-square test of independence cell by cell, with CHISQ.DIST.RT and with CHISQ.TEST, measure the strength of the association with Cramér's V and see why a larger sample shrinks the p-value but not the effect, read a 2 × 2 table as risk difference, relative risk and odds ratio with a confidence interval, handle sparse tables and Fisher's exact test and test paired yes/no answers with McNemar. The first lab is free.
